Rockstar's Extended Look Is Now Your Only GTA 6 Gameplay. What It Shows
Rockstar Games has given players a direct look at Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay through a single official video, titled Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look. This footage, which runs for 26 minutes and 48 seconds, was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. It premiered on Netflix on 27 August 2026 at 3 p.m. ET and reached Rockstar's YouTube channel and website later that same evening at 9 p.m. ET. Rockstar calls this entry the biggest evolution of the series yet, describing it as a single player experience with two playable leads, Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos.
The Extended Look is the only long-form gameplay presentation from Rockstar. It follows two earlier trailers, Trailer 1 from 4 December 2023 and Trailer 2 from 6 May 2025. Rockstar's marketing line states the game Plays Best On PlayStation 5, and it is confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S. The release date is 19 November 2026, a date Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has publicly reaffirmed with no further delays expected.
For searches about GTA 6 graphics and engine, the only official statement is that the Extended Look was captured in-game on a PlayStation 5. Rockstar has not named the game engine, nor specified a resolution or frame rate. Any details not shown in this official footage, such as a first-person view, the full map, or a list of missions, are not confirmed by Rockstar at this time.
What the gameplay footage shows
While Rockstar has not published a feature list, the Extended Look footage reveals several gameplay mechanics and details. The website Kotaku published observations of what appears in the video. These are reported details, not Rockstar confirmations.
The footage appears to show a context menu for interacting with people and animals, including dogs, similar to the system in Red Dead Redemption 2. When aiming at enemies, the reticle flashes red or yellow, suggesting enemies can be either killed or just incapacitated. Jason can slow time while aiming at an enemy. Stealing a car involves jimmying the lock in a small mini-game.
Observed world details and character interactions
Kotaku's report notes other elements visible in the footage. The minimap shows 3D buildings. Jason and Lucia can hold hands and text each other on their phones. Clothes and masks can be changed on the spot from an item wheel.
The world includes wildlife such as birds fighting on a sidewalk and manatees in the swamps. Character details show Jason and Lucia getting sweaty while lifting weights, dancing, and fighting. Players can switch lights on and off and check a fridge for food and drinks. In one scene, Jason does a backflip off a pier into the water.
The confirmed setting and characters
Rockstar confirms the game is set in the state of Leonida, home to Vice City. The company calls it Vice City, USA and the darkest side of the sunniest place in America. Six specific regions are named on the official site: Vice City, the Leonida Keys, Grassrivers, Port Gellhorn, Ambrosia, and Mount Kalaga.
The two playable protagonists are Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos. Jason grew up around grifters and crooks, did a stint in the Army, and now works for drug runners in the Keys. Lucia was taught to fight by her father, served time in Leonida Penitentiary, and her family came from Liberty City. Several supporting characters are also confirmed, including Cal Hampton, Boobie Ike, and the bank robber Raul Bautista.
What is not confirmed yet
Many details players may be looking for have not been announced by Rockstar. There is no official map size, mission list, vehicle list, or weapon list. Rockstar has not detailed an online mode for GTA 6, only calling it a single player experience. Store listings rate it ESRB M and PEGI 18, and the download size has not been published.
A PC release date has not been announced. Based on the history of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2, a PC version could arrive in 2027, but that is only an estimate. Rockstar has not officially credited the voice cast. Cheat codes for GTA 6 have not been confirmed.
